ABOUT US

Training Wheels is a child development center designed for children between the ages of 3 to 5 years.

Our program was founded in 1979 by Dr. Betty H. Robinson, an expert in child development, with a long career within the city’s private and public education system. We focus on individual needs by supplementing the learning for each student. In our program, children acquire reading, math, gross motor/fine motor and social/emotional skills needed to be successful. We offer a variety of hands-on activities in Art, Music, Computers, iPads and Creative Curriculum by Teaching Strategies in both classrooms as well as weekly visits to the Children’s Museum.

Children are divided into two groups: Preschool (3 year olds) and Prekindergarten (4 & 5 year olds). In the Preschool classroom, we implement self-help, cognition, language skills and play into our different Thematic Units. Some of the Thematic Units include Community Helpers, Transportation, Safety and Families. In the Prekindergarten classroom, we use the Creative Curriculum for reading, Math Connects, and Science offered by Macmillian/McGraw-Hill. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided for all children.

We include families in our learning environment with weekly newsletters, daily child updates, and bi-annual conferences with teachers. We welcome parents volunteers to help out in the classroom and on field trips.
